Farmers apply such an amount of fertilizers that guarantee a stable average, not maximum yield.
In 2023, Ukrainian farmers are trying to apply such a quantity of fertilizers and apply such technologies in order to obtain stable average harvests, and not the maximum, which they sought and collected in the pre-war period.
This is stated in a study conducted as part of the Agrohub Benchmarking project.
In addition, it eliminates losses in case of delays in harvesting, which, for example, happened last year with corn. Such a strategy is quite appropriate when it is necessary to ensure a stable result in conditions of many risks that cannot be managed, says Oksana Bobrova.
The biggest reduction occurred in potassium and sulfur for soybeans — this year's level of application decreased by 71% from the previous one. A significant decrease in sulfur volumes can also be seen in corn — by 62%. For the rest of the crops, the reduction of this year's volumes of potassium, phosphorus and sulfur took place at the level of 37% to 55%.
